Shaub Farm is located on Popp road in Lake Leelanau. Overlooking the lake, the property spans 80 acres and was purchased by Ralph Shaub when he was just 18. He has been farming the land on his own for over 48 years. Recently his son Alex has become more involved and the two work together to grow cherries; their main crop, rhubarb, squash, pumpkins, tomatoes, plums, pears and of course peaches. Alex who was a cherished employee of ours for years, says part of what is so cool about working and running the farm with his dad is that "I pick everything fresh and mostly let everything become tree or vine ripened to get the best flavors." We can certainly tell the difference between Shaub Farm peaches and other suppliers from their tree ripened sweetness and quality of the fruit. Because Ralph and Alex handpick the peaches themselves, what arrives at our door is produce that is in pristine condition and perfectly ready to use. If you dined with us over the last few months, you likely noticed Shaub Farm grilled peaches on our mixed green salad, and enjoyed them in our house made sobets, galletes, and tarts.
Sadly, peach season has come to an end, but be sure to watch for other Shaub Farms produce on our menu, stop by their stand on 204 just west of Herman road or visit them athe the Sarah Hardy farm market. You'll be glad you did.
