Aptly named, Idyll Farms is an idyllic, Certified Humane® goat farm and creamery located in Northport, Michigan. Nestled on nearly 200 acres of rolling hills, Idyll Farms Alpine goats are pasture fed using a rotational system to ensure the best nutrition for the goats and the best treatment of the land. Because the diet of Idyll Farms goats directly impacts the flavor of their cheeses (Leelanau terroir – “a taste of the place”) great care is taken to cultivate ideal grazing conditions. Organic compost, beneficial worms, and probiotic whey is added to the soil to encourage the natural propagation of nourishing grasses, wildflowers and leaves.
Because goats are ruminants, altering their diets naturally to meet the needs of their bodies, the composition of their milk is ever changing. The Idyll Farms Creamery team is constantly adjusting recipes based on milk solid to fat ratios and other contributing factors in order to create consistently superior cheese. Idyll goats are milked twice a day and fresh cheese is made from the milk daily.
